Our Commitment to Radical Rest and Self Care
Organizing and training communities for gender and racial justice is a marathon. Like so many of our partners, we’re engaged in the work of personal and community transformation — and we know it doesn’t happen overnight. Radical transformation requires radical rest, because a tired organizer is an ineffective aspiring ally and community member. In order to create real change, we must manage our own mental and physical health. This can be a challenge for all of us, because the culture of movement work is often to push harder, work faster, and consider everything urgent. The Man Box also socializes those of us who identify as men that to rest is to admit weakness.
At A Call to Men, we are committed to powering radical transformation with radical rest. We are constantly evaluating how we can lean into radical rest and communal care, and we will continue to evolve our policies to support our community in any way we are able.
One of the ways we focus on self care is by offering an additional ten paid holidays (on top of federal holidays and Summer Fridays) to commemorate and celebrate moments that we as a team find culturally and personally relevant. With the help of our entire team, we have chosen the list of paid holidays below for 2022:
